Chicago & Boyz n the Hood"Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s first reading material each morning, at
5:30, is not a budget update, a legislative proposal or a packet of headlines.
It is an e-mail from the Chicago Police Department listing the crimes that were
committed during the night that just ended. By 7 a.m., he is calling Garry F.
McCarthy, the police superintendent. That is unlikely to be their final
conversation of the day, or even of the morning." (Davey)
Homicide rates have increased within the past years, while across the nation the amount of killings decrease in cities such as New York or Los Angeles. With this along with the other presented information it can be clearly seen that Boyz N the Hood was not only just a representation of Los Angeles but also Chicago. The amount of men and women who lose their lives at a young age are unimaginable. Just as in Boyz N the Hood where the lives of four young men growing up in the trouble ridden streets of Los Angeles in 1991, the film also shows the lives and struggles faced throughout the nation. The film depicts a problem that is real and everywhere it strives to bring awareness to the horrors of growing up in the hood. |
